The New Year

Tommy and Patrick

Happy New Year, friends!

Looking back on the year, we’re very happy with what we’ve done. 2009 was our best year yet:

We spent a third of the year on the road, touring with Noah Gundersen & The Courage, Tom Rorem, The Denouement, and Seth Martin.

We released two albums: our full-length Let Us Reconcile, and our first vinyl EP, Freeze & Thaw. (Our New Albums)

We released plenty of Music Videos, recorded on friends albums (Noah Gundersen, Liddy Voetberg, Pete Stewart), and made a new website here at garagevoice.com.

So what are our plans for the New Year?

First off, we’re playing at the Q Cafe this Saturday in Seattle with Tony Kevin Jr and Pablo Trucker. 8 pm, $8.

Later this winter we’re touring the west coast with one of our favorite musicians, Adam Pasion. We’ll be posting dates soon.

We’re releasing a new takeaway video on Wednesday.

And before, during and after all of this, we’re working on new songs. They’re our best songs yet. For now, we’ll keep playing the songs you know!

THANK YOU for all of your support this year. We couldn’t be doing this without you.

Friends,

Our new EP, Freeze and Thaw, is coming along, and we’re almost ready to send it off to get printed on vinyl. Which EP, you ask?

The one on which Karli Fairbanks sings beautifully, Kale Lotton and Michael Porter play their sax and trombone passionately, Caleb Ingersoll mixed marvelously, Anna Hurley designed fantabulously.

We are quite excited about this EP. You can pre-order it at our store, OR if you’d really like to help, you can donate any amount by clicking on this button:

It’ll take you to a page that you enter your amount in. Afterwards, you choose to donate via your PayPal account, or your debit/credit card.

Your support has always made our records possible. Thanks for helping out again!

From Spokane’s Crunk Roost:

“Normally when I hear that a band that established themselves as being able to achieve much with the “do it yourself” productions has decided to bring a mainstream producer in, I shed a fearful tear.

“Usually this means that the band has given up on their own producing skills and has decided to “sell-out” on a sound that is less creative and more of a sound from the “radio machine”.

“Luckily, though, my tears and night terrors were silenced after I heard what is now my favorite Garage Voice album, Let Us Reconcile.

“Their producer, Pete Stewart, who produced albums for bands such as: dcTalk, Bleach, and TobyMac, did an incredible job of maintaining the core sound that we all have come to expect from this talented trio.

“The album starts with the track Book It, which right away lets the listeners know what kind of tasty treat of a record this will be. The sound is more mature, and the instrumentation is much more deliberate than previous albums.

“Tommy Panigot’s lead vocals have become more of a focus than before and the overall mix of the music is done in such a tactful way that nothing ever feels that it’s begging to be noticed.

“Basically, the entire album is a culmination of Tommy, Bruce and Patrick reaching the next level in songwriting and technique. The drums and the bass have become the solid framework needed to house the guitars and vocals. And the overall feel of the record leaves you with a sense of completion inside; as if you had finished a masterpiece and knew there was nothing left to do to it.

“With songs like Mercy Came a Runnin’ (easily the strongest song) that show you just how much their music can stoke you up, they also have songs such as All To Pieces, which, if you’re really listening to what the song is saying, will bring you to tears.

“Overall, the album is spectacular. The boys took some bold steps in their laid-back progressive songwriting along with having absolutely no fear in revealing their lives and beliefs through the lyrics in each song.

“If you have a need to enjoy some quality music, or just feel like searching your soul and questioning what you really believe, then this, my friends, is an album you must have.

“You are free to buy this album either on their website… or on iTunes.

“You probably should. You deserve it.”

Here’s a song to listen to while you read the blog:

We just finished a mini tour with this gentleman, Seth Martin. Seth is one of our favorite musicians to watch live. He captivates his audience as he balances humor and earnestness. One moment you’ll be laughing, the next you’ll be reconsidering the way you look at the world.

On our drive to Port Townsend, we stopped in Shelton to meet up with our dear friend Graydon Holden from Lower Lights Burning and ate some fabuloso Mexican food.

The World Through Seth’s Eyes, or Garage Voice Through Seth’s Frames

What do we look like with Seth’s glasses? Well… Tric looks German, Tommy looks like Waldo (Where’s Waldo?), and need I say who I look like? Nope. I need not. Neither do you. Lets pretend you never saw this photo.

Road Reads
We stopped by a bookstore in Port Townsend. How could we forgo a visit to a used bookstore? Tommy picked up a book on typefaces, Patrick, doll-making, and Seth, Thoreau. I almost got a couple Thomas Cahill books, but I figure I’ll be reading Susan Wise Bauer’s 800 pg History of the Ancient World for quite a while.

We spent Monday hanging out with our new friend, Mary Heather. She took this snap before Seth headed back home to Portland.

Seth, it was lovely touring with you. We’ll cherish the memories.
