Some fun snippets from the Hammond Owners Manual from decades ago:

These photographs were taken by Robert Ferrone at our concert at LIFE on Wilshire.

This tour has been our best yet. Here’s what we’ve been up to.

Tuesday the 20th
We started our tour at the Fox Den in Redding, one of our favorite places to play. We debuted some new songs, including “Waters Always Moving” and “Emmanuel’s Veins”.

Wednesday the 21st
Drove through Chico and spent a couple hours there. Found an EXCELLENT record store. I picked of “Hums of the Lovin’ Spoonful” and “Do You Believe In Magic” and Tommy got another Kenny Burrell record and an original Dave Brubeck Quartet. Drove to Visalia and stayed with Elijah (Adam Pasion’s banjoist) and feasted on Mexican food.

Thursday the 22nd
Played the 210 in Visalia. Debuted “Leopard’s Spots”. Elijah’s new band Tumbleweed opened the night. They were amazing. After Adam Pasion’s set we had an encore for all three bands. So we all stomped out to “Loud As Your Miracles”.

Friday the 23rd
San Luis Obispo. One of our favorite places to play. We had an intimate outdoor concert in a church’s courtyard.

Saturday the 24th
Went to Shell Beach, then headed over to Santa Maria for one of the best house shows we’ve ever played. Local band The Sassafras Union opened the night, and they blew us away. Keep your ears to the ground for them. The mother of the home cooked up some amazing Thai curries for us before the show. What a way to start a night.

Sunday the 25th
Spent the morning with Adam, his wife Brittany, and Elijah. I tried my hand at his vespa, and accidentally did a little off-roading. Played the Tin Can Alehouse in San Diego with two excellent local acts that night. It’s a cool spot. A long, narrow room with a small stage. We were anticipating it to be our only rock n roll show of the tour, but switched to our Freeze & Thaw set to match the mood.

Monday the 26th
We went to the Taylor Guitars factory in El Cajon, stopped by the seals chilling on the beach in La Jolla, had dinner at Johanna Chase’s home, and headed to the swanky LIFE on Wilshire. The night ended with Johanna, Tric and I jamming on Beatles and Pink Floyd covers with a fine gent who worked with Sir George Martin, Fleetwood Mac, Duran Duran, and such.

A couple weeks ago we had the privilege of playing the Sunset Tavern with Brier Rose and The Head & The Heart. Kaylyn Messer took these lovely snaps.

Live in Provo

Our friend Jocelyn Bowman took these photos at the Velour Live.

Friends,

The Q Cafe just released a promo video, and in the background is a live performance of “Cropper” from our last show there.

Watch:

We’re finishing our tour this week, playing our final show at The Q Cafe with Adam Pasion, Lower Lights Burning and Tom Rorem. It starts at 7:30, and tickets are only $8. Come on out. It’ll be grand to see all your faces again after a long time away.

Friends in Seattle,

Pete Stewart, producer of Let Us Reconcile and front man of Grammatrain, is having his album release show in Seattle tonight. I recorded some upright bass on it back in October. Tommy designed the concert poster, and label-mate Tony Kevin, Jr is opening the show. So, there you have it. All in the family.

Adam is a remarkable musician, and we’ve been wanting to tour together for over two years. Don’t miss this!

This weekend I had the privilege of playing bass with Lower Lights Burning at their Q Cafe show. Abby Gundersen from The Courage joined us on violin. I must say, their latest EP Climbing Out from the Dark and their new, unrecorded songs, are their best yet. It’s great when an EXCELLENT band keeps getting better and better.

Here are two songs from the concert on Monday. “Samson”, one of the most profoundly penitent songs I’ve heard, and “Answers”, so passionate you just have to listen.
